Winslow voters passed a $21.2 million school budget in Tuesday’s election.
The spending plan represents a 3.6% increase on the current budget after the school board cut more than $400,000 from the initial proposal.
Winslow voters approved the budget by a wide margin. Almost 72% of voters supported the budget while 27% voted against it.
After the school board made significant cuts to its initial budget proposal, Town Council Chairwoman Fran Hudson suggested pulling $100,000 from the town’s fund balance — essentially a savings account made up of unspent taxpayer money from prior years — to cover some of the school’s expenses if the school found the same amount in its budget.
After this compromise, the council passed the school budget and its $15.6 million municipal budget in late April.
Results are unofficial.
