Bryson Ware hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the seventh inning, and a ninth-inning comeback bid by the Portland Sea Dogs fell short in a 3-2 Eastern League loss Saturday night to the Reading Fightin Phils in Pennsylvania.
Trailing 3-1 entering the ninth, the Sea Dogs cut into the deficit on a double by Miguel Bleis and an RBI single by Brooks Brannon. Johanfran Garcia followed with another single, but a double-play grounder ended the game.
Reading took the lead in the fourth inning when Raylin Heredia homered off Sea Dogs starter Gage Ziehl. Ahbram Liendo tied it with a sacrifice fly in the fifth.
