Jeannine D. Beland
AUGUSTA – Jeannine D. Beland, 94, passed away on June 6, 2026, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Long Term Care at Gray Birch.
She was born on May 1, 1932, a daughter of Alphee and Irene Rodrigue in St. Benoit Labre, Quebec, Canada. One of 11 siblings, Jeannine moved with her family to Chelsea, in 1946 and graduated from Cony High School in 1950. On March 26, 1951, she married Laurent R. Beland, and they raised six children. Besides being a homemaker, Jeannine held several jobs in food service and as a housekeeper at St. Paul’s Center and St. Mark’s Home. Jeannine was a communicant of St. Augustine’s Church, where she served in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults and as Eucharistic minister.
Jeannine was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and was honored as grandmother of the year. She was also a member of the Cursillo movement, the St. Paul Charismatic movement, and various bible studies.
Jeannine volunteered at the Togus VA Hospital, Bread of Life Ministries and Augusta Food Bank.
In her later years, she and her husband took to the road on their Gold Wing Honda motorcycle, visiting most states and some Canadian Provinces. They also traveled with their RV camper to many places and settled in Zephyrhills, Fla., during the winter months for many years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Laurent R. Beland; her daughter, Michela Leavitt, and her husband, Jack, daughter-in-law, Tonya (Wilson) Beland; one grandchild, Robert Owen; and siblings Noella Barker, Rene Rodrigue, Roland Rodrigue, Norman Rodrigue, and Gene Rodrigue.
Jeannine is survived by her children, Robert and his wife, Margo, of Augusta, David and his wife, Lynn, of Manchester, Mark and his wife, Dessie, of Bloomingdale, Ga., Brian and his wife, Denise, of Augusta, and William, of Augusta; siblings Louisette Dostie, Claudette Poulin, Monique Raymond, Anne Aube, and Theresa Aube; 23 grandchildren and their spouses; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Per Jeannine’s wishes, there will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on June 18, at 9 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 75 Northern Ave., Augusta, ME 04330 with reception to follow at Le Club Calumet in Augusta.
Her rite of committal will be later this summer at Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Road, in Augusta.
