In a June 11 letter to editor (“Struggling in Maine? Here’s why.”), the writer suggested Mainers should work more to raise the “lowest labor participation rate in New England.”
Quick research reveals that the low rate is a function of Maine having the oldest population in the nation, not Mainers being a bunch of deadbeats. More people in retirement means a larger percent of people not laboring. Maine needs more people of workforce age.
Perhaps increase immigration?
