As a U.S. Army veteran who served in Korea, with family members who have served in combat dating back to WWI, up to and through the current wars in the Middle East, I have to say that the so-called Democrats in Maine who voted for Graham Platner — because they believe his despicable behavior is related to his time in combat — have obviously slipped their moorings and drifted around the bend.

There is no question that my father, two of my brothers and I may have initially drank too much. But no one sent explicit text messages to other women while married. One of Platner’s most egregious Reddit posts suggested that a wounded comrade “didn’t deserve to live.” That shows how selfish this character truly is.

I pray that the voters in Maine remember that in November.
