Virginia “Ginny” Webb

WINTHROP – Virginia “Ginny” Webb, 90, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2026. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and faithful member of her church community, Ginny lived a life centered on love, service, and faith in God.

Born in 1935 to George and Celia Canwell, Ginny was one of nine children and grew up in Monmouth. From an early age, she enjoyed getting lost in a good book. She graduated from Monmouth Academy in 1953 and married the love of her life, Kenneth Webb, that same year. After a brief time in New York, they settled in Winthrop, Maine, where they built a home and raised their family.

Ginny and Ken were blessed with six children. While she worked over the years at Mayfair Lace, Simpson’s Egg Farm, Chick’s Orchard, and Nicholson Nursing Home, her greatest calling was caring for her family. She created a home where everyone felt welcome, no one left hungry, and love was always abundant.

A gifted homemaker, Ginny enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, gardening, and family camping trips. Whether sharing a handmade quilt, vegetables from her garden, or a home-cooked meal, she found joy in giving to others.

Her Christian faith guided every aspect of her life. A devoted member of Winthrop Congregational Church, Ginny served her church family in many ways, including singing in the choir and Coda Chorus, baking her beloved biscuits for fish chowder lunches, sharing treats with fellow parishioners, and greeting worshippers with her warm smile. Even in her later years, she looked forward to hearing church newsletters read aloud so she could stay connected to the congregation she loved.

Though she enjoyed many interests, Ginny’s greatest joy was her family. Known affectionately as “Grammer” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she cherished every opportunity to spend time with them, sharing her love through food, encouragement, and the simple pleasures of being together.

After Ken’s passing in 2004, Ginny continued to enjoy quilting, country western concerts, church activities, and time with family and friends.

When asked during her final days whether she loved cooking or simply cooked out of love, Ginny answered, “I loved seeing people’s faces when they saw my biscuits coming towards them.” Those words perfectly reflected a life spent caring for others.

Ginny was predeceased by her parents; her beloved husband, Kenneth; her daughter, Pamela Jean, and her son, Gerry Allen.

She is survived by her children, Thomas, Edward, Karen and partner Garry Cromwell, and Daniel; her grandchildren, Angela and husband Matthew Bartrug, Daniel and his partner Monica Nessmith, Jodi-Rae Nessmith, and Jason Hodgdon; her great-grandchildren, Kaden, Tucker, Max, Ellie, Lyla, and Trent; and several nieces and nephews.

At Ginny’s request, there will be no formal services.

To honor her memory, share a meal with loved ones, bake something special for a friend, enjoy the beauty of flowers, and cherish every moment with family. And, as Ginny would remind you, always take your hat off at the table.

Donations in Ginny’s memory may be made to Winthrop Congregational Church.
