Judith Ann Libby Staples

SEARSPORT – Judy Staples, 83, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2025, at Maine Health Waldo Hospital. Judy was born June 30, 1941, in Wayne Maine. Adopted by Charles Libby and Edith Dagerstrom, she attended Wayne schools.

Judy married Rudy Staples Jan. 24, 1959, in Wayne and they had four children, Donna, John, Norma, and Joann. Together Judy and Rudy enjoyed dancing on Saturday nights with Ruthann and Arnold, going to off track betting with horses, ran the kitchen at St. Francis bingo, having family gatherings especially the holidays. Rudy and Judy had 43 wonderful years until he passed away in 2002.

Judy loved having her grandchildren over to spend the night and happy to spoil them with freeze pops, strawberry/chocolate milk, macaroni and cheese and taking them sledding, to Cottles/Fun town and Bugaboo’s. She loved to play Bingo at several places, especially the Calumet club with her daughter Norma. She had several nieces and nephews that she loved very much.

Judy had jobs she enjoyed over the years including Livermore Shoe, Progressive Distributors as a supervisor, Winthrop United Methodist Church managing the nursery and KVCAP driving.

Later in her life she met Roger Rowley to share her life with. They enjoyed going to breakfast daily, watching baseball, feeding the birds/possums and any animal that would come to the door. They had two pets they loved very much, Diezel the pitbull and Gibbs the cat.

She was predeceased by her husband Rudolph Staples; grandson Tommy Johnson and granddaughter Serena Whaley.

Survived by her fouor children, Donna Staples-Whaley, Norma Staples, John Staples and his fiancee Leslie, Joann Thomsen and her husband Eric; several grandchildren, Michael O’Leary (wife Sophie/ daughter Sadie, and his father Gary O’leary), Deanna Jean, George Jr. and his partner Kelsie, Jennifer Johnson and her husband Walter and children, Katie Peters (husband Jake, son David), Evan Clement and daughter Hannah, Skyler Whaley sons Abel and Logan, Cory Staples and his wife Kelsey, Nikki Doughty and her husband Zach and children Makenna, Willow and Tommy, Lacey Thomsen, Natalie Thomsen, Samantha Thomsen.

Burial will be at the North Wayne Cemetery at 11 a.m., June 27, at 53 North Wayne Rd., Wayne.
