I support Sen. Collins for her record on veterans’ issues. It is vitally important that we support those who have sacrificed so much for our country’s safety and prosperity. Sen. Collins does exactly that.
Earlier this year, Collins secured more than $3 million in funding to improve housing facilities and healthcare for Maine veterans. She fought to expand VA benefits for veterans who served before 9/11, she is one of the most important voices in fighting veteran homelessness and she helped expand veteran access to breast cancer screenings.
Veterans are often forgotten by politicians more focused on flashy, culture-war issues. Because Sen. Collins has always focused on common-sense, nonpartisan issues, she has prioritized our veterans.
I once had the opportunity to visit Normandy Beach to see where we landed on D-Day. It changed my life and forever gave me an immense respect for veterans. My sister and I have donated about 300 homemade afghans to veterans since then. Sen. Collins serves as a model for how representatives and constituents alike should approach veterans’ issues; we’re lucky to have her here in Maine.
