I disagree with the letter writers who have recently stated that people from other states should not be writing to our Maine papers. This viewpoint is what has gotten the country to the argumentative atmosphere we now live with.

I, for one, am pleased to know that people who are outside of Maine know this paper exists. If everyone in the country would read our newspaper, or at least read their own local newspapers instead of getting their news from Facebook or some other website that supports totally fabricated and ridiculous nonsense, then we could all go back to being a kinder, gentler community.

Before President Trump was elected this last time, I spoke with a local person who had gotten total misinformation from various websites and absolutely believed garbage such as: in 1937 Hitler was cloned and escaped to Africa and had a daughter who in turn was the mother of Barack Obama. Also that John F. Kennedy Jr. is still alive and using a pseudonym to pass on information about conspiracies.

In this person’s defense, he works probably 80 hours or more per week and is constantly in a sleep-deprived state, which makes him more susceptible to misinformation.

Local reporters do the research to give us the whole story.
