Theresa (Bouchard) Roy

WATERVILLE – Theresa Bouchard Roy passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 18, 2026, with her family by her side.

Theresa was born in Upper Frenchville, the daughter of Joseph and Anna Deschaine Bouchard. After graduation from Madawaska High School, Theresa enrolled in the Cadet Nursing Corp with the Sisters Hospital School of Nursing in 1944, graduating in 1947. After graduation, she remained in Waterville and soon met her future husband, Joseph Roy. They were married at 7:00 a.m. on a Monday, April 2, 1951. They were together until his passing in 1994.

Theresa loved her work at Seton Hospital, where she worked for many years, and cherished her lifelong friendships she made along the way. Although she was orphaned at 15 years of age, Theresa lived a rich and full life. She made family her primary focus in life as a mother, wife, and Memere. She took great joy in family gatherings and knowing that she was an important part in the development and success of her children and grandchildren.

Known to the family as Mem, she will be greatly missed by her seven children and their families, Michael and Schari Roy, Steve and Valerie Roy, Anne Owens, Susan Labbe (Randy), Greg Roy, Kathy Roy, and John Roy. Theresa is also survived by her 11 grandchildren, Carolyn (Chris), Molly (Phil), Dan (Heather), Derek (Leah), Amy (Bryan), Lee, Mike (Ariel), Marc (Erika), Dave (Sally), Tricia (Tom), and Catherine (Justin); as well as 15 great-grandchildren. Being one of 13 children, she is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Theresa was predeceased by her parents; husband Joseph; sisters Lucille Levesque, Lillian Levesque, Rollande, Bernice, Claire, Claudette, Irene, Lucille, and brothers Lucien, Rosaire, Roger, and Paul, as well as her daughter-in-law Renee Roy.

In accordance with Theresa’s wishes, there will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on July 16 at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 116 Silver Street, Waterville. A reception will follow at the Colby College Alumni Center, on Mayflower Hill Drive in Waterville. The burial will take place at a later date next to her husband at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 143 Blue Star Avenue, Augusta.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the wonderful and special staff at Oak Grove Center who cared for Theresa over the past several years.
