OAKLAND – Victor Roy Grivois, 68, of Oakland, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at home with family by his side.
Victor was born on March 14, 1958, the youngest son of Leo and Ruth Grivois. He graduated from Messalonskee High School, where he later worked as a custodian and bus driver. He was well known for his dedicated work ethic, working seven days a week for most of his life. His employment included Cascade Woolen Mill, Statler Tissue, Messalonskee High School, and the Town of Sidney Transfer Station. He truly enjoyed working at the Sidney Transfer Station and resisted full retirement as long as possible.
He was very fond of animals and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. While driving bus for the New England Music Camp during the summer, he looked forward to bringing his family along for trips to Reid State Park. He also enjoyed spending time at camp on Great Pond in Belgrade when his wife’s family came up from Massachusetts each summer.
His dedication to family surpassed even his work ethic. Known affectionately as “Papa” to his grandchildren and many others who loved him, he was forever supportive of his children and grandchildren. When his granddaughter, Emily Olson, was diagnosed with cancer, he made sure she made it to all her treatments, even going back and forth to Boston. Seeing Emily now in remission brought him great joy.
In his final year, Victor’s daughter, Megan Grivois, and her partner, Jeremy O’Clair, were there for him and his wife nearly every day. Jeremy faithfully drove Victor to all his treatments, and their support and devotion meant a great deal to him and his family.
He shared a special bond with his grandson, JT O’Clair, who held his hand as he passed away.
He was predeceased by his parents; his grandmother, Madeline Corey; his father-in-law, Jerry Powell; and his grandson, Bryan Olson.
Victor is survived by his wife of 44 years, Brenda (Powell) Grivois; mother-in-law Janice Powell; daughters Selina Grivois and her partner Wayne Booker, Megan Grivois and her partner Jeremy O’Clair, and Jennifer Olson, son Jonathan Grivois and wife Kellye; grandchildren Jacob, Aaliyah, Andrew, JT, Emily, Liam, Lorelye, Brianna, and James; brothers David Grivois and wife Diane, and Gary Grivois and wife Lynne; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
A burial service will be held on Saturday, July 11, at 2 p.m. at Lewis Cemetery in Oakland, with a potluck gathering to follow at 91 Middle Road, Oakland.
The family would like to thank MaineHealth Cancer Care and Gentiva Hospice for the exceptional care and compassion they provided.
