WATERVILLE — Gordon Contracting will begin construction Monday on the
Donald V. Carter Memorial Bridge, which connects Waterville and Winslow.
The Sangerville-based company will replace the bridge’s wearing surface with a new membrane and new pavement and replace aging expansion joints on both ends of the bridge, Winslow town manager Marc Amaral said.
According to DOT planning documents, the project is set to wrap up in September.
Phase one of the project will run until the end of July; the bridge will stay open to two-way traffic with narrow lanes.
Phase two will close eastbound traffic in mid to late August, leaving the bridge open only to westbound traffic from Winslow into Waterville.
Work on the bridge is the latest project in a series of DOT bridge updates happening across the state. Once this bridge is finished, Amaral said Winslow should get a break from bridge construction.
The majority of the work on replacing the Ticonic Bridge, which also links Waterville and Winslow, wrapped up earlier this month. The multiyear, multimillion dollar project started in 2023 and was substantially completed about eight months early.
