Barbara (Dunlap) Warren
PORTLAND – Barbara Dunlap Warren, 87, of Portland and Manchester, Maine, transitioned from her body on June 22, 2026, in the loving presence of her children and life partner.
She was born in 1939 to doting parents, Wes and Alice Catherine Dunlap. She was the proud, older sister of Wes, Jack, and Jim. The family lived in upstate New York, California (during WWII), and Massachusetts (when her father taught at MIT).
Barbara, an avid lifelong learner, studied at Cornell. She met Henry Warren there and they married. After a deployment to Panama for his military service, life took them to Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Vermont, and, ultimately, Maine. They built a house in Manchester that was Barbara’s home for 50 years. They raised their three children (Dana Rae, David, and Sarah) there before their paths diverged.
Barbara was a skillful, nurturing therapist and clinical social worker who helped hundreds over 40-plus years. She started at what became the Crisis and Counseling Center in Augusta, before launching a private practice. She was a founding mother of the Family Violence Project and shelter in Augusta, mentored social workers, and counseled new doctors in residency.
Barbara and Priyadarshi George met in a UConn Master of Social Work program. Ten years later, they became life and business partners, embarking on countless adventures together, including their Arts of Living Learning Center and trips to Pakistan, India, and Italy.
One of Barbara’s greatest gifts and most profound joys was parenting her own children and others “collected” along the way. She had a special ability to see the uniqueness of each person and make space for them to flourish as their full selves. Another joy for her was the natural world and its many creatures. She was deeply spiritual, grounded in mystical experience, and a member of Vassalboro Friends (Quaker) Meeting.
Barbara is survived by Priyadarshi and their dog, Nike; Barbara’s children and their partners; Priyadarshi’s children, Katherine and Joe Drenski and their families; Barbara’s brothers and their families; a local cousin, David Farmer; and best friend, Diane Salisbury and family, who have been kin since the 1960s.
The celebration of life will be 10 a.m., July 25 at Falmouth Congregational Church.

In lieu of flowers, please spread kindness in the world – lend a supportive ear to someone in need, encourage a weary parent, take care of a wounded animal, or learn about someone from another culture. Do what Barbara would have done.
