Lucille Eva Lajoie
AUGUSTA – Lucille Eva Lajoie, 82, passed away peacefully at MaineGeneral’s Alfond Center for Health on June 30, 2026.
Born on April 19, 1944, in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, she was the daughter of Napoleon and Lucienne (Lemieux) Laflamme.
Lucille grew up in Sherbrooke where she graduated from high school and college earning her bachelor’s degree in teaching. She taught grade school in Sherbrooke and high school in Montreal.
On July 15, 1967, she married the love of her life, Dr. Norman W. Lajoie. Together they built their life in Augusta, sharing nearly 59 years of marriage and raising a family they cherished.
After moving to Augusta, she continued her commitment to education as a substitute teacher in the Augusta School System and later as a French instructor with Augusta Adult Education. She eventually joined the Togus VA Medical Center, where she worked as a laboratory technician until her retirement.
Lucille embraced an active lifestyle and enjoyed hiking, running, bicycling, skiing, playing tennis, hunting, and fishing. She was also known for her love of baking and generously shared her talents with others, often preparing homemade treats for school functions, Boy Scout events, and family gatherings. A talented seamstress, she spent countless hours sewing and crafting gifts for family and friends, including the decorative kitchen towels and quilts that became cherished keepsakes in many homes. Her warmth, generosity, and willingness to help others touched many lives throughout the years.
Above all, Lucille was devoted to her family. She took great pride in her children and grandchildren and cherished every opportunity to spend time with them. Whether through a homemade meal, a baked treat, a handmade gift, or a word of encouragement, she showed her love in countless ways. She will be remembered for her strength, kindness, determination, and quiet acts of generosity.
She was predeceased by her parents; her son, Eric Lajoie; her brother, Pierre Laflamme, and her sister, Christiane Boucher.
Lucille is lovingly survived by her husband, Dr. Norman W. Lajoie; her daughters Marleen Lajoie and Audrey McDonnell; her grandchildren, Eric McDonnell and Tristan Morton; her sister, Denise Laflamme, her brothers Rejean Laflamme and his wife, Jeanne d’Arc, and Alain Laflamme and his wife, Guylaine Tremblay, her sister, Jocelyne Dumont and her husband, Denis, her sister-in-law, Catherine Geoffroy; as well as many nieces, nephews; extended family members; and friends.
Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday, July 27, at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 75 Northern Ave., Augusta. Burial will follow at Holy Family Cemetery on Townsend Road in Augusta.
