Nirav Shah should be the Democratic candidate for Senate for Maine. He has already proven that his calm, reasonable leadership can guide the people of Maine through difficult times. Dr. Shah won the most votes in the first round of voting in the gubernatorial race. Democratic candidates Shenna Bellows, Troy Jackson and Hannah Pingree formed an alliance asking their supporters to rank one another on their ballots, decreasing the chances for Dr. Shah and Angus King III.
Dr. Shah does support the progressive agenda: economic equality, social justice, healthcare for all, renewable energy. He expresses his agenda in his open-minded way, providing a chance for everyone to join his conversation. In his previous roles, he has represented all of the people, not aligning himself with one party or another. About one-third of Maine voters are unenrolled; they do not affiliate with a party. Choosing someone with strong ties to the state Democratic Party and/or to Graham Platner will significantly decrease our opportunity to defeat Sen. Susan Collins.
