A convention to choose a new Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate may be a good way forward. However, I do hope convention delegates will keep in mind that more than 70% of Democratic primary voters supported Graham Platner’s vision for our country; his youth and energy.
While Platner is no longer an appropriate messenger, it seems only fair to allow our votes to count by nominating a candidate who shares those positive traits. Likewise, nominating a candidate with statewide appeal and experience further increases the chances of defeating Sen. Susan Collins.
To my mind, Troy Jackson is the most logical choice. He has the support of many of the same national figures and organizations while also having deep roots in Maine, Maine labor and Maine politics. I would be proud to vote for him in November.
