Mariah Douglas Morris
SIESTA KEY, Fla. – A beautiful human left this earth on July 8, 2026. It is with profound sadness that our family announces the passing of a precious daughter, sister, mother, and aunt, Mariah Douglas Morris of Siesta Key, Fla. Mariah’s life was taken in a tragic motor vehicle collision in Glendive, Mont. Mariah was 49 years old.
Born on Oct. 4, 1976, and delivered at home by her family in Lexington, an unorganized territory in Maine, Mariah entered the world as the first of four daughters. She was her mother’s helper, and she embraced her role as the eldest sister with purpose, compassion, and love.
Mariah grew up with her family on Church Hill Road in Augusta, Maine, where some of her favorite childhood memories included riding bikes, swimming in the pond, planting gardens, and milking goats. These simple moments of family, nature, and togetherness remained some of her most treasured memories to share.
Mariah’s favorite words were “blessed,” “love,” and “gratitude.” Her favorite phrases were “full of life” and “lived with gratitude,” words that truly reflected the way she approached each day. She appreciated the little things, such as flowers, fresh air, long walks, healthy food. Mariah loved every day with genuine enthusiasm.
Mariah graduated from Cony High School in 1995 and enrolled at the University of Maine in the Biomedical program. It did not take long for her to realize that her free spirit and desire to explore the world made a traditional academic path less suited for her. True to her entrepreneurial mindset, she purchased an RV and began traveling across the country while creating an online Inn Registry called “The Innkeeper.” After months of adventure and discovery, she found her favorite place in Venice, Fla., and that area became her home for the remainder of her life.
It was in Florida that Mariah met her husband, Richard Walters. Together, they welcomed the most important person in Mariah’s life: her son, Dylan Carter Walters. Mariah adored her son and spent countless hours playing with him, creating crafts, and, in later years, traveling together. At the end of every night, she would tell him, “I love you more,” and everyone who knew her understood how deeply true those words were. Her “best days ever” were the days she spent with Dylan. At 13 years old, Dylan experienced a lifetime of love from his mom and now she is watching over him from Heaven.
Throughout her life, Mariah embraced many interests and careers, including working as a licensed real estate agent, money lending broker, real estate developer, and interior designer. Her days were filled with creativity, meeting new people, building businesses, and surrounding herself with the beauty the world had to offer.
Her family could expect daily pictures and messages in their group chat—sunset walks, special moments with her son, and accomplishments from her businesses. Those messages almost always ended with the words, “Love YOU all.”
Those who knew Mariah will remember her for her beauty, her love of life, and her excitement for experiencing the world. She traveled extensively during her 30s, always sharing photographs and bringing back special tokens for her sisters. She never missed a family member’s birthday, always sending a gift, a text message, or a phone call. Her messages will never be forgotten.
Mariah loved beyond measure. She lived fully in each moment, and her family will forever miss her love, generosity, kindness, and the bright star she had become in all of our lives. The last days of her life she spent with her family, and she was so happy to have everyone together. She had bought pairs of handmade earrings as gifts that said, “I love you forever.” It is so fitting because together with Dylan, we will love her forever.
Her family was her constant, but everyone who crossed her path was touched by her light, her love, and her gratitude. She was our free spirit and now God has asked her to join him in the heavens to watch over the family she loved so much.
Mariah is survived by her parents, Craig Morris Jr. and Catherine Holloway of Augusta; her beloved son, Dylan Carter Walters of Venice, Fla.; her sister Annalee Morris-Polley, her significant other Benjamin Bolduc, niece Katrina Rose Polley, nephew Timothy Douglas Polley and Christopher Anthony Bolduc, all of Augusta; her sister, Christian Morris and husband Dr. Brent Burnette, nephew Jackman Reese Burnette, and niece Winter Ryan Burnette of Las Vegas, Nev.; and her sister, Grace Norton and husband Nick Norton of Augusta.
Mariah was predeceased by her grandparents, Dr. Craig Morris and Charlotte Morris of Augusta and Herbert Doulas and Muriel Holloway of Edgecomb.
A celebration of life and an opportunity to pay respects will be held on Aug. 1, at the family property located at 578 Church Hill Rd., Augusta, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Mariah would want everyone to come at their leisure, leave when they would like, dress in fashion and in color, reflecting the joy and vibrancy she brought into the world. This is an opportunity to celebrate her amazing life, as Mariah loved happiness.
A private burial will be held in the fall. She will be laid to rest in a place where her family can visit often, where she can watch the sky change colors and feel the breeze on her wings.
Mariah’s light, love, gratitude, and passion for life will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
