Driver flees police, leaves stolen Jeep
MANCHESTER — Police say are looking for a man who fled from police Wednesday in a stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee before abandoning the vehicle on a logging road.
Sgt. Justin Fowlie of the Maine Warden Service said the unidentified man abandoned the Jeep on a logging road off Pete’s Way, which is off Prescott Road. The man apparently fled on foot through the woods, and police attempts to track him with dogs were unsuccessful, Fowlie said.
The pursuit started around 3:15 p.m. after Game Warden Steve Allarie checked the registration of the Jeep as it was parked near Tyler Pond. The driver jumped into it and fled when Allarie went to talk to him.
The pursuit lasted just a few minutes, running along Summerhaven and Prescott roads.
“It was very long because the guy pulled a U-turn and the warden lost sight of him,” Fowlie said, referring to the search after the driver disappeared. Police continued to search until the Jeep was discovered on the logging road.
Route 133 crash puts woman in hospital
WINTHROP — One person was injured Thursday when two cars collided on Route 133.
Wanda Baril, 50, of Turner, was taken by ambulance to St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston, said Winthrop police Officer Paul Ferland. The second driver, Lloyd IrlandCCrosby 4/25/13 cq, 66, of Wayne, was not injured.
The crash occurred around 2 p.m. near the Route 41 intersection. Baril, driving a 1993 Geo hatchback, pulled out of the driveway in front of Irland’s west-bound 2007 Nissan hatchback. The Nissan hit the Geo’s driver’s side front fender. Police did not file any charges.
Third bomb threat unsettles RSU 4
LITCHFIELD — Police are investigating a third false bomb threat this week at a Regional School Unit 4 school.
Capt. Daniel Davies of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office said the threat was reported a little before 2:45 p.m. Thursday after employees at Carrie Ricker School on Route 197 found writing in a second-floor boys bathroom suggesting the presence of a bomb. It was written on a bathroom stall wall, Davies said.
Davies said the area was evacuated and bomb-sniffing dogs were called to search the school at administrators’ request. No bomb was found, Davies said.
It was the third bomb scare of the week — and the fourth of the month — at schools administered by RSU 4, which includes Litchfield, Sabattus and Wales.
Police on Wednesday charged a 14-year old Wales girl with filing a false public report or alarm for her alleged connection to a bomb threat Monday at Oak Hill Middle School in Wales. She reportedly wrote the word “bomb” on a bathroom mirror. A similarly written threat was reported Tuesday at Oak Hill High School in Wales, and another on April 2 at the high school. In each case the schools were evacuated.
