NEW BRITIAN, Conn. — Waterville senior Nick Danner finished second in the javelin at the New England track and field championships at Veterans Stadium on Saturday.

Danner threw the javelin 187-feet, 2-inches. He was runnerup to Tony White, of Longmeadow, Mass., who threw it 187-11.

Danner led a strong Maine contingent at the meet.

Jade Canak of Erskine finished fourth in the triple jump with a school-record leap of 37-0.25. The jump was nearly two inches more than her previous best score. Pearl Abiti of Colchester High School in Vermont won the event with a leap of 37-4.75.

Lake Region sohomore Kate Hall won the 100-meter dash in 11.69 seconds. She was also second in the long jump (19-0.75).

Gray-New Gloucester junior Will Shafer was fourth in the 1,600 (4:18.17) while Isaiah Harris of Lewiston was second in the 800 (1:53.35).

Waterville senior Devin Burgess cleared 13-9 to finish seventh in the pole vault. Cony senior Lindsey Folsom was 11th (10-9).

Boys lacrosse

No. 1 Brunswick 12, No. 5 Messalonskee 9: Messalonskee jumped out to a 3-1 lead but then watched Brunswick take control of the game late in the half. The top-seeded Dragons (12-1) closed the half on a 6-1 run to take a 7-4 lead. They then held on late to advance to the Eastern A title game.

Messalonskee finished 9-5.
