SIDNEY — Maine Arts Academy theater students will present three original one-act plays at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at Maine Arts Academy, 8 Goldenrod Lane. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.

The three original plays are written and directed by Maine Arts Academy theater students.

The first play is “Askew,” written by Alexa Gallant and directed by Marie LaBrecque. It tells the story of Protestant martyr, Anne Askew.

The second play is “Mary, Mary” and was written by Natalie Gilbert and directed by Mars Bisson. “Mary, Mary” tells the story of Frankenstein author, Mary Shelley and her feminist mother Mary Wollstonecraft.

The third play, “Call Me Ellie” and is written by Carina Higgins and directed by Alexa Gallant. “Call Me Ellie” is the story of the playwright’s grandmother, Eleanor Licciardi, who had an opportunity in the 1940s to dance with the Radio City Rockettes.

This evening of short plays features stories of women and celebrates our mothers and grandmothers, recognizing both the achievements of the past, as well as the untapped potential.

Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for students. All proceeds will benefit the Maine Arts Academy Student Theater to help fund future productions.
