Winthrop woman hurt in rear-end accident
WINTHROP — A local woman was injured Tuesday when her car was hit from behind on U.S. Route 202.
Tanya Desjardins, 52, of Winthrop, complained of pain after the crash but was not taken to the hospital, said Winthrop Police Officer Paul Ferland.
The second driver, Richard Compo, 69, or Garland, was not injured.
The crash occurred just before 11:30 a.m., as Desjardins drove her Jeep Cherokee west on U.S. Route 202. Desjardins was waiting in traffic to turn left onto South Road when her Jeep was hit from behind by a 2006 Ford F-250 pickup truck driven by Compo. His truck hit the left front of the Cherokee and went into the eastbound lane, where it almost hit a third vehicle, Ferland said. The truck came to a rest on the South Road.
The Jeep was totaled and the truck suffered front-end damage.
Traffic was diverted onto Old Village Road for about 40 minutes, Ferland said.
No charges were filed.
