FARMINGTON — The University of Maine at Farmington recently announced the following free events:

* Talk: Why Indian Can Never be a Hindu Theocracy will begin at noon Friday, March 1, in North Dining Hall A, UMF Olsen Student Center. The talk will be presented by UMF Libra Professor Sudip Mazumdar. For more information, call 778-7409.

* A snowshoing trip is set for 10:30 a.m, Saturday, March 2. A trip to the newest Maine Huts and Trails hut Stratton Brook Hut. A three-mile snowshoe to the hut. Bring a lunch and dress appropriately for the weather. Those younger than 13 require pre-approval and adult supervision. * Ice skating will begin at noon Saturday, March 2, at Winslow’s Sukee Arena. Skate rentals are available. Participants are to meet at 11:45 a.m. at the Fitness and Recreation Center. * Tibet Week events will begin at 11:45 a.m. Monday, March 4, in Lincoln Auditorium, UMF Roberts Learning Center. Special guests, lectures, discussions and movies that shine a spotlight on Tibetan Buddhist culture and the current political turmoil in the Himalayas. * Fitness and Recreation Center: Women’s Only Telemark Clinic Under the Lights at Titcomb will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, at Titcomb Mountain. The clinic is for intermediate women tele skiers looking to improving their skiing. The clinic is free; lift tickets cost $10 for UMF students and $15 for adults.
