FARMINGTON — In celebration of National Health Information Professionals Week, the Health Information Management department at Franklin Memorial Hospital will host an open house for community members from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 19.

According to a news release, those who attend may present a photo identification to receive a complimentary electronic copy of their health record on a flash drive. Education regarding health information and privacy will be available, as will refreshments and door prizes.

Health information management is a vital source to patients and the physicians who provide treatment. HIM professionals are responsible for the collection, storage, coding, processing, analysis, interpretation, application, privacy and sharing of information for a wide range of purposes in health-care settings. It is their role to ensure that the health record is complete, accurate and available when needed most.

“As new technology and policies evolve, HIM professionals’ jobs have drastically changed over time, and they must adapt their skill set to ensure the best patient care and safety,” said Heather Chartier, FMH director of health information management, in the release. “This week is an opportunity to learn more about the role these professionals play in the health care system.”

The HIM department is on the ground floor of the Franklin Health Medical Arts Center, on the Franklin Memorial Hospital campus. For more information, call 779-2330.
