OAKLAND — What a difference a week makes.

The ninth-seeded Mt. Blue girls basketball team surprised No. 8 Messalonskee 53-47 in overtime of a Class A/B prelim game Tuesday night.

Messalonskee sank Mt. Blue by 16 points in a game played last week.

“We just lost to this team by 16 points last week, so this feels great,” Mt. Blue coach Zac Conlogue said. “It got shaky at times but we pulled ourselves together.”

Messalonskee trailed by five with about a minute left before forcing overtime when Brennan Doran hit a layup in the closing seconds of regulation.

However, the Cougars made 8 of their 11 free throws in overtime to grab the victory.
