WATERVILLE — Waterville Public Library recently announced its 2012 Summer Reading Program events.

The program is open to all young people, infants through age 13, with weekly programs, special events, story times and more.

Families are encouraged to read together throughout the summer to reinforce literacy skills gained each school year. Reading aloud or alone helps build comprehension and vocabulary skills. Reading for entertainment opens worlds of imagination and gives children a richer learning context when school resumes.

Due to strong community support, Waterville Public Library has expanded hours and is now open Monday through Saturday, June 18 to Aug. 18. Reading activities will be offered six days per week.

On Monday afternoons, school-age children can investigate other times and cultures through stories and hands-on activities in the Explorers’ Club.

For those who want to talk about interesting things they’ve read, the Book-Sharing Club will meet Tuesday afternoons.

Lego club continues on Wednesday afternoons and Summer Arts and Crafts Friday afternoons.

Members of Waterville High School’s State Champion Science Olympiad Team will return to lead Weird Science Thursday afternoons.

The 4th annual Design Week, a week-long arts workshop for middle-school-age children, will be Aug. 6-10. Design Week is sponsored by the Colby College Museum of Art, Common Street Arts and the Library.

Registration information is available at watervillelibrary.org or call 680-2605.
