
OAKLAND — Gabriella Smart, daughter of Tim and Kerry Smart of Oakland and a senior at Messalonskee High School, has been selected to receive the 2021 Principal’s Award. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.
Throughout her four years at Messalonskee High School, Smart has distinguished herself in the classroom as a high honors with distinction student, student of the month, and a member of the National Honor Society, according to a news release. Her leadership roles have included being a member of Student Council as a representative for her class as well as class president her sophomore and junior years. This year she has been one of two student members on the school’s leadership team.
She has been a member of the golf, volleyball, lacrosse and basketball teams, and a student helper for the Unified Basketball team. As a member of the golf team she was awarded the Eagle Award and she was an honorable mention KVAC student athlete in lacrosse.
Upon her graduation from MHS, Smart plans to attend Wheaton College to major in biology with an emphasis in medical research.
