AUGUSTA — A South China man faces a maximum of 30 years in jail on two charges included in a six-count indictment handed up Thursday by a grand jury in Kennebec County.
Dean A. James, 44, was indicted on two counts of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs — oxycodone and hydrocodone — which carry the 30-year maximum penalties, as well as aggravated unlawful furnishing of marijuana and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
Two other counts in the indictment call for the criminal forfeiture of a 2005 Toyota Tundra, allegedly used in the commission of the crimes, and the forfeiture of firearms or dangerous weapons authorities say were found during a search.
All the offenses charged occurred on or about Nov. 9 in China, according to the indictment.
James previously was convicted of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs in 2000.
An indictment is not a determination of guilt, but means there’s enough evidence to proceed with formal charges and a trial.
