The boys high school playoff fields are set, and there are a few intriguing matchups in the early going.
In Eastern A, Cony (14-4-0), which won 10 of its final 11 games, snapped a two-season playoff drought and earned the fourth seed.
The Rams will play Tuesday at 4 p.m. against No. 5 Maranacook/Hall-Dale/Winthrop (9-9-0), which has lost four of its last five games.
The game will be played at Kents Hill, which was home to both teams this season.
MHW swept the season series from Cony, winning 4-3 and 4-2.
“It should be a great game,” MHW coach Andy Dube said. “Both teams are very similar.”
Lewiston (13-4-1) earned the top seed and will play the winner of tonight’s prelim game between No. 8 Skowhegan (7-9-2) and No. 9 Gray-New Gloucester/Poland (3-15-0).
Skowhegan and GNG/Poland are scheduled to face off at 6 tonight at Sukee Arena, weather permitting.
“We’re going to be called upon to play good hockey,” Skowhegan coach Jeff Fowler said.”If we don’t it won’t end the way we’d like. We’ll see what happens.”
No. 2 Bangor (13-5-0), which eliminated Waterville (4-14-0) from playoff contention with a 3-1 victory Thursday, will play No. 7 Brunswick (7-10-1). No. 3 St. Dominic (12-6-0) will play No. 6 Edward Little (10-7-1).
