Jaycie Christopher of Skowhegan, a senior at Skowhegan Area High School, has been selected to receive the 2022 Principal’s Award.
The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.
Christopher has been involved in golf, basketball and softball each of her four years. She was selected as a captain for all three teams. She has been selected to KVAC 1st team several times in all three sports. She has distinguished herself in the classroom and has challenged herself academically taking 12 honors level classes, according to a news release from Principal Bruce Mochamer.
Christopher has taken several Advanced Placement courses while maintaining a high GPA. She has been the recipient of many department awards throughout her four years. In addition, she received the Williams College Book Award her junior year and was named as the Women in Engineering Excellence Award recipient this year.
She is involved in school organizations and activities. She serves on Student Council, is the president of her class, and the vice president of National Honor Society. For several years, she has been a partner/helper on the Unified Basketball Team and is a program leader at Somerset Career & Technical Center. Outside of school she has been involved in assisting many youth girls’ basketball clinics, caddying for golf Special Olympics, and packing Thanksgiving food baskets.
Christopher concluded her high school basketball career being named as the 2022 Maine Gatorade Player of the Year and 2022 Miss Basketball by the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches.
Christopher intends to pursue a degree in business and plans to attend Boston University in the fall.
The awards ceremony will be remote again this year, so Mochamer plans on recognizing her at school assembly where he will present her with the MPA pin and plaque.
The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators. The MPA will award $1,000 scholarships in the names of former Maine principals and MPA executive directors. This was to be done through a virtual ceremony on April 1.
