The Cox Memorial United Methodist Church in Hallowell plans to hold a silent auction for the benefit of UMCOR at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, April 4, at 29 Middle St.
All proceeds will go to provide essentials to the citizens of Ukraine. The sale will close 15 minutes after the closing of the 10 a.m. church service, according to a news release from the church.
Among the items are a $50 gift card to the Liberal Cup, $50 gift card to The Sea Dog Brewing Company, $20 gift card to Dollar Tree, five gift card bouquet, three pieces of children’s butterfly jewelry valued at $150, a Thomas Kincaid puzzle, a Chef Pantry ice cream maker, Foosketball by Hasbro, an instant pot, an oil painting, and a roll of forever stamps.
UMCOR is the United Methodist Committee on Relief, with grants already going to Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Romania to support those who have remained in Ukraine or fled the violence to neighboring nations.
The church took a collection early in March, with almost $2,000 contributed to UMCOR.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
