FAIRFIELD CENTER — A man robbed the Big Apple convenience store early Thursday morning and fled with an undisclosed amount of money, police said.
The robber was described by police as white man in his late 20s, 5-foot, 8-inches to 6-feet tall, weighing 250 to 300 pounds. He had a goatee and wore sunglasses, a gray fleece jacket over a maroon hooded sweatshirt and khaki pants.

No one was injured and the man did not show a weapon, but Fairfield Police Chief John Emery said surveillance video shows the man holding an unidentified object in his hand.
The same Big Apple store was robbed April 16, 2010. After that robbery, surveillance cameras were installed inside the store, which is open 24 hours a day, Emery said.
Police said the latest robber entered the store at 292 Norridgewock Road and demanded money from a safe.
Emery said the store’s female clerk — who was alone in the store — told the robber the store did not have a safe, so he demanded money from the cash register instead. The clerk gave the man the cash and he ran out of the store.
The clerk called police at 12:06 a.m. Thursday and Emery said Fairfield police arrived within four minutes.
Officers from Fairfield, the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office and Maine State Police responded. Emery said Maine State Police Trooper Rick Moody and his tracking dog followed a scent to a nearby driveway, where police believe the robber got into a vehicle and left.
Emery said people who find themselves caught in the midst of a robbery should not approach the robber and should do as they are told.
“Don’t try to be a hero,” Emery said. “It’s money and it’s not worth someone’s life.”
In the 2010 robbery, a female cashier was alone when a man with a small semi-automatic silver handgun walked in and demanded money from the cash drawer. The cashier described the man as slender and wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt and a ski mask. Police said the man escaped on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.
Emery said Thursday that no one has been arrested in connection with that case.
The Fairfield Police Department asked that anyone with information about Thursday’s robbery call the department at 453-9321.
