VASSALBORO — Planning Board members have an unusual application on Tuesday’s agenda: Ann Dube proposes Two Hogs Winery on Mudget Hill Road.

Dube grows some grapes and said she will plant more. She began making wine for personal use in 2005, starting with a blueberry wine, and said she found she enjoys the process — and her friends enjoy the results.

After visiting other Maine wineries, she, a friend and her brother-in-law decided to open their own business.

Dube is converting part of her cellar into a winery. With the necessary approvals, she intends to sell wines, both wholesale and retail, and host wine tastings.

Many of her wines will be made with Maine berries, she said — not just blueberries, but strawberries, raspberries and blackberries.

She has already tried a blackberry Merlot.

Veteran Planning Board member Douglas Phillips said he cannot remember a previous application for a winery in Vassalboro.

Dube said the coffee shop is a useful landmark for directing people to her house, but said she hopes her business will not create as much commotion.

Dube’s application falls midway through a lengthy Planning Board agenda that begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday, with public hearings on two ordinance issues to be submitted to voters at Town Meeting in June.

The two proposed changes are amendments to the shoreland zoning map and the floodplain ordinance. Details will be available at the hearings.

After the hearings, board members are scheduled to:

* continue review of Michael Petito and Jake Shorey’s application for Riverside MX, a proposed dirt bike training facility on Petito’s property at 100 Cushnoc Road that was first presented in February;

* review Todd Overlock’s application for an automobile repair business at 960 Main St., North Vassalboro, just north of the four corners;

* review Dube’s winery application;

* review a shoreland zoning application from the Tess and Kelly families on Sandy Point Road, on the west shore of Three Mile Pond; and

* discuss permit fees.

The board meets in the Town Office, Route 32.
