CAMBRIDGE — A man who police say was murdered by his son died of blunt force injury to the head, the Maine Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said Tuesday.

Alfred Licata, 63, was found dead on a lawn near his home on Thursday night. His son, Angelo Licata, 33, of Detroit, faces one charge of intentional or knowing murder.

Police have declined to comment on a motive or weapon used. Steve McCausland, a spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said Tuesday he had no new information. Any update will likely come from court paperwork or testimony.

Phone calls to the home at 14 Ham Hill Road, in addition to the Skowhegan home of Angelo Licata’s brother, were met with a busy signal for hours.

Alfred Licata’s wife, Arlene, was upstairs Thursday night when she heard banging and yelling below her, according to an affidavit filed by Maine State Police Detective Bryant Jacques at the Somerset County Superior Court.

“She then went downstairs and observed blood all over their kitchen and was scared,” according to court documents.

She dialed 911 from a neighbor’s house. As she left her home, she noticed her son’s vehicle still in the driveway, according to court documents. Somerset County Sheriff’s Office deputies found her husband on the lawn.

Angelo Licata went to the Waterville Police Department of his own volition early Friday and was arrested. He remains at Somerset County Jail in East Madison without bail.
