A human error during a live Tri-State Pick 4 drawing Tuesday led to a second drawing Wednesday.

Winners of both drawings will be paid, according to a news release from Maine State Lottery. That decision as made by members of the Tri-State Lotto Commission — comprising lotteries in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

According to Michael Boardman, marketing manager for the Maine State Lottery, there are a number of “pre-test drawings” before official drawings to ensure equipment is running properly.

On Tuesday, one of the pre-test balls was left in the machine during and was discovered afterward, a rare occurrence that hasn’t happened in years, Boardman said.

“Obviously, the integrity of the drawing is the most important thing you’ve got,” Boardman said. “We’re trying to do the right thing.”

Pick 4 tickets with the winning numbers of 3-2-8-1 for the Tuesday evening draw in response to the error must be claimed at the main office of the Maine State Lottery in Hallowell.
