FAIRFIELD — A man was killed in Fairfield while trying to move a tree knocked down by Monday’s powerful storm, authorities said Monday evening.

Shortly after 3:30 p.m. Monday, Fairfield police and Fairfield-Benton Emergency Services responded to a call reporting serious injuries to a man on Norridgewock Road, the police department said in a news release.

Responders found that the man was struck and killed by a downed tree while trying to move it with a tractor, police said.

Authorities have not released the name of the victim, as they work to notify the man’s next of kin.

The death is the second caused by Monday’s storm, which brought major flooding and knocked out power for hundreds of thousands of customers statewide.
