If we’re all being honest with ourselves, we can look back on our younger years and find something that we regret saying. Sometimes this is out of anger; other times it is due to simply being misinformed. The great thing about being human is that our thoughts and philosophies have the ability to grow and evolve over time. The best thing we can do is own it and explain how we have moved on from such statements.
That is what makes how Graham Platner responded to the controversy surrounding his old Reddit posts refreshing. In an era where politicians are all too often quick to deny and deflect, he stepped up, admitted where he had been wrong and asked for forgiveness. It is a breath of fresh air that we all could use in Washington.
