
Maine native Amy Allen was nominated for the Songwriter of the Year Grammy on Friday morning, giving her a shot at a second straight win in the category after having received the 2025 award in February.
She’ll find out if she earns the prestigious award a second time on Feb. 1, 2026, when the Grammys are presented live on CBS. Other songwriters who’ll be competing with Allen including Edgar Barrera, Jessie Jo Dillon, Tobias Jesso Jr. and Laura Veltz.
Allen has worked over the past few years with pop hit maker Sabrina Carpenter, and was listed as a co-writer on all of the songs on Carpenter’s album “Man’s Best Friend,” released in August.
Allen could also win two more Grammys in February for songs she worked on. “APT.” by ROSE´ and Bruno Mars and “Manchild” by Carpenter were nominated for song of the year, while “Man’s Best Friend” by Carpenter was nominated for album of the year. In both those categories, the songwriter also wins a Grammy if the song or album wins.
Allen’s nomination Friday for songwriter of the year listed songs she had worked on for Carpenter, as well as songs performed by Jessie Murph, Tate McRae, Jon Bellion, Shaboozy and Sierra Ferrell, among others.
For the songwriter Grammy she won in February, Allen was recognized for songs she worked on for Carpenter, McRae, Leon Bridges, Olivia Rodrigo, Justin Timberlake and others.

Allen, who grew up in Windham and South Portland, took several family members to the Grammys with her in February, including her parents and two sisters.
“It was really important for me to have my family there because, in a way, I almost feel like they deserve the award more than I do,” Allen told the Press Herald a few weeks after her Grammy win. “They’ve been the ones listening to my songs since I was 9 years old and cheering me on even when the songs were objectively bad. “
Allen graduated from Waynflete in 2010 and performed music on her own and in a band before moving to Los Angeles around 2017 to work as a songwriter. Within a year and a half, she had co-written radio hits for Selena Gomez and Halsey. She had also worked with Carpenter on the 2024 album “Short n’ Sweet” before collaborating with her and others on “Man’s Best Friend.”
After years of writing hits for other singers, Allen released her debut solo album as a performer in in September 2024, the same week she hit No. 1 on the Billboard songwriters chart. Her self-titled “Amy Allen” features 12 songs she wrote and performed. It was produced over the last few years, while she continued to write hits for others.
