A column written by Rep. Ann Dorney, D-Norridgewock, “State’s aging population requires cooperation, creative solutions,” was printed in the newspaper on July 15. Frankly, I was astonished at her hypocrisy.
Dorney is certainly correct about the need for creative solutions, but why didn’t she support those solutions when they were in front of her in the Legislature?
Instead of supporting Gov. Paul LePage’s plan to use $5 million in tobacco settlement funds for nursing homes, she toed the party line and voted against the idea. Thankfully, more funds were found for nursing homes, but if Democrats had thought beyond their personal political biases, we might have been able to prevent closures such as Pittsfield Rehab & Nursing.
We don’t need more hypocrisy and political games in Augusta. After this display of partisanship from my current representative, I’ve decided to support Brad Farrin, a Republican from Norridgewock, for representative in November.
