A man was displaced Friday after his mobile home was gutted by fire, the cause of which was undetermined as of mid-afternoon.
West Gardiner fire Chief Mike Gross said most of the living area inside the home was destroyed.
“The house was a single-wide mobile home, most likely a total loss,” Gross said. “It’s still intact, but it’s gutted.”
The Office of State Fire Marshal was contacted and investigators may come to the scene later Friday to help identify a cause, Gross said.
“It’s possible it was caused by a pellet stove, but it’s undetermined,” he said.
No one was reportedly home when the fire broke out. No injuries were reported and no pets were in the home, Gross said.
The Red Cross is assisting the displaced man, according to the chief.
About 15 firefighters from West Gardiner, Gardiner, Farmingdale, Randolph, Pittston, Litchfield and Manchester responded to the scene, according to Gross. Central Maine Power Co. also arrived to disconnect power to the home, he said.
Benson Road is between Collins and Hallowell-Litchfield roads.
