A mix of snow and rain is on tap for Maine Maple Sunday Weekend.

A storm system coming out of New Hampshire is expected to bring 3 to 4 inches of snow to the Portland area and more in other parts of the state, according to forecasters at the National Weather Service in Gray.

The light snow is projected to hit Saturday night into early Sunday morning, said NWS Gray meteorologist Stephen Baron. The snow is expected to turn into rain as temperatures warm up in the Portland area Sunday afternoon.

Areas more north and inland may see 4 to 6 inches of snow. The western Maine mountains are expected to get 6 to 8 inches.

Snow and rain could continue through the better part of Monday, Baron said. The storm is expected to pass through the state by end day Monday.

“(There will be) slick travel Sunday, potentially into early Monday,” Baron said.
