Most of the wildfire smoke Maine has seen in recent years is coming from the West on the jet stream.

With Tuesday’s heat and thunderstorms comes the possibility of tornados in some parts of the state.

The National Weather Service warns residents to stay alert and have a plan to seek shelter if necessary from Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday.

It will feel over 100 degrees in parts of the state on Tuesday, forecasters say.

Things should get noticeably cooler by Saturday and Sunday in many areas of the state, according to the National Weather Service.

We all hate the sticky feeling that hot, humid days bring. But what’s the science behind why it makes us so uncomfortable?

Much of Maine was under some form of weather service advisory heading into the weekend.

Tuesday is expected to mark the beginning of a warm spell, with highs in the 80s across much of Maine, according to the National Weather Service.

Portland eclipsed the previous May 19 mark of 86 degrees, set in 1949, and it was nearly the city’s hottest day in May on record.

Temperatures are expected to fall back into the 50s and 60s by the second half of the week.
