Franklin Arias homered on the second pitch of the game and scored four runs, Gage Ziehl struck out six over five scoreless innings, and the Portland Sea Dogs earned their fifth win in six games, holding on for an 8-6 victory over the Altoona Curve in an Eastern League game Wednesday night in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
Arias led off with his second home run of the season. In the third, a single by Arias started a five-run rally that included a two-run triple by Will Turner and an RBI double by Tyler McDonough.
Arias was 2 for 3 and reached base five times, including once on an error, as he raised his batting average to .542. McDonough was 3 for 4, and Turner, Marvin Alcantara and Nate Baez all collected two hits.
Ziehl yielded four hits and two walks on the way to his first win as a member of the Sea Dogs (6-4). Michael Sansone recorded the final four outs for a save after Altoona (0-11) cut into its big deficit with four runs in the sixth and two in the eighth.
