CAP.cutline_standalone:Chris Selwood works in the office of the old Colonial Theater on Wednesday in Augusta. He’s a volunteer with a group that is trying to renovate the theater, which opened in 1913 at 137 Water St. The theater is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays through Nov. 1 for an open house and tours.

Roy Brackett, 82, scrapes the exterior of a shed on Tuesday at the blacksmith shop at the Vassalboro Historical Society off Route 32. Brackett and his friend Paul Duplessie, 78, stripped old paint from the structures, which were jacked up recently to strengthen the foundations. The men said volunteers are welcome to join them every Tuesday to help preserve the town’s history.
