Tyler Hardman hit a grand slam in the first inning, starting the Somerset Patriots on their way to a 13-3 win over the Portland Sea Dogs in an Eastern League game Friday night in Bridgewater, New Jersey.
The Patriots scored five runs in the first, two in the second and three in the fourth to build a 10-0 lead. Shortstop Anthony Volpe, on a rehab assignment from the New York Yankees, was 0 for 3 but walked twice, scored twice and hit a sacrifice fly.
Sea Dogs catcher Johanfran Garcia hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning and Will Turner homered in the ninth.
