The historic tax credit in Maine’s tax code is a vital incentive to restore and maintain historic properties throughout the state. It’s being put to good use at the old Cony High School building, where it’s helping to put the former school to use as an affordable housing project for seniors.
Last year, however, the historic tax credit was on the chopping block as the state budget committee looked for ways to balance the budget. Fortunately, our state Rep. Matt Pouliot, R-Augusta, stepped in and spoke up for Cony and the good work underway there, testifying before the Appropriations Committee and successfully convincing his colleagues to save the tax credit.
Matt understands the housing problems facing Maine seniors and he’s fighting to take care of them and help them remain independent. I’m voting for Matt Pouliot on Nov. 4 because he gets results.
