FARMINGTON — The University of Maine at Farmington Fitness and Recreation Center will offer its annual Summer Daze Camp from June 15 to Aug. 7 for children entering grades 1-7 this fall.

The camp will run Monday through Friday for eight five-day sessions. Families may register children for one or more weeks.

The annual camp, which has been held for more than 25 years, will feature a “Travel Through Time” theme, with weekly sessions built around indoor, outdoor and travel activities, including swimming, water games, sports, arts and crafts, hiking, field games and Wednesday field trips.

Planned field trips include Ferry Beach, Popham Beach, Mt. Blue State Park and Funtown Splashtown. Wednesday field trips are scheduled for set weeks but are subject to change, according to UMF. Campers will meet Fridays at Kineowatha Park in Wilton.

Weekly themes are Prehistoric Pioneers, beginning June 15; Ancient Civilizations, beginning June 22; Enter the World of Knights, Castles, and Dragons!, beginning June 29; Age of Exploration, beginning July 6; Wild West & Frontier, beginning July 13; Inventors & Industrial Age, beginning July 20; Modern Day Heroes, beginning July 27; and Future Explorers, beginning Aug. 3.

The camp provides local families with “a safe, active, and adventure-filled summer experience,” according to Mike Colella, UMF assistant director of fitness and wellness programs and director of Summer Daze Camp.

Colella said the camp stands apart from other local camps through travel opportunities, certified lifeguards for water activities and a staff of trained college-aged counselors, many of whom are education majors.

The camp costs $235 per week, with an additional one-time $12 fee for a camp T-shirt. Registration is open until sessions are full, and the last couple of weeks are getting full, according to UMF.

Registration is available through UMF Summer Daze Camp.
