WATERVILLE — The planning board voted to approve a proposal for an Amazon distribution center at Trafton and Junction roads following a preliminary and final plan review Tuesday when it found the project met all necessary conditions.
At the meeting, representatives from the Central Maine Growth Council and Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce and two Waterville residents spoke in favor of the project.
Speakers asked the board to approve the project, saying it would be good for Waterville’s comprehensive plan, economic growth and property taxes.
The distribution facility would sit on land which is already zoned for a warehouse, and developers said the project would cause no unreasonable pollution, erosion or traffic.
Developers noted that they have incorporated the planning board’s suggestions into their plans, including avoiding a species ofelm, which is susceptible to infection by browntail moth caterpillars.
The planning board voted to approve the findings of fact with listed conditions for the project, including that it would not cause unreasonable traffic congestion or have an undue adverse effect on the scenic or natural beauty of the area.
As the facility would sit on the Waterville/Sidney border, it will have its final review process in Sidney on Monday.
The Sidney meeting will take place at 7 p.m. on Monday at 2986 Middle Road.
