NOTE: Because of record breaking snow fall, the Alfond Youth Center’s annual Polar Bear Dip will be rescheduled to late February or early March, according to a news release from the Alfond Youth Center. Participants are encouraged to plan Polar Bear Dip Teams and seek sponsorships.

The Maine Pond Hockey Classic has been canceled.

Original event information

The Alfond Youth Center’s annual Polar Bear Dip will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, on Snow Pond, 8 Golden Rod Road, during the opening ceremonies of the Maine Pond Hockey Classic.

The third-annual Maine Pond Hockey Tournament three-day event will host more than 40 teams at Snow Pond Center of the Arts. There will be a beer garden, a souvenir store, winter festival games, an evening social featuring comedian Gabe Kea and an awards ceremony. The tournament runs Friday, Feb. 6, through Sunday, Feb. 8. Attendance is free.

This year’s Polar Bear Dip has a tighter fundraising focus as proceeds will benefit the AYC Kids’ Kitchen. The kitchen serves more than 40,000 hot meals a year to approximately 200 children who take advantage of this opportunity on a daily basis.

Registration forms for the 21st annual Polar Bear Dip are available at mainepondhockey.org or alfondyouthcenterblog.wordpress.com.
