UNITY — Richard Wiswall will conduct a business planning workshop titled “Farm Smarter, Not Harder” from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Feb. 17, at MOFGA’s Common Ground Education Center in Unity.

This 1½-day workshop is designed to help those who have one year of production data, or similar experience, and are ready to sharpen their pencil and better understand their business finances, according to a news release from MOFGA. Participants should bring pen, paper, a calculator and, if possible, financials from the 2014 season, including crop plans, as well as income, expenses and sales figures.

The workshop will address planning for profit; making a profit on your farm; your marketing strategies; and developing enterprise budgets.

Wiswall is the owner/operator of Cate Farm in Vermont and author of “The Organic Farmer’s Business Handbook.” He has been farming for 33 years, concentrating on organic produce, medicinal herbs and seedlings, according to the release. Wiswall shares his knowledge by giving workshops on what he refers to as the “neglected business side of farming.” Copies of his book will be available for sale at the workshop.

The $75 registration fee includes lunch; $35 extra covers another person from your farm. To register, visit www.mofga.org.
