A local man was critically injured Sunday when he crashed his motorcycle on Cushnoc Road in Vassalboro.

Andrew Olson, 39, of Augusta, was taken by ambulance to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta before being transferred to another hospital to be treated for a “serious head injury,” said Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steven McCausland. He was unsure whether Olson was treated at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston or Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Olson was not wearing a helmet.

The crash occurred around 3:45 p.m. as Olson was rounding a curve on Cushnoc Road.

“It appears Olson lost control,” McCausland said. He said speed was a factor in the crash.

The motorcycle left the road and hit a guy wire attached to a utility pole, McCausland said.
